Dear Creative, Artist, Entrepreneur,
Putting yourself out there can feel vulnerable, overwhelming and scary… until you realize that your work serves a bigger purpose than you may even know.
We’re here to create…
and our creativity through any form of medium is a means to not only fulfill a calling, passion or unique path, but a way to deliver meaning, a message or an answer to someone else.
That’s how creativity works.
That’s how God works.
We make art…
with our lives, our work, our passions, our perspectives, our writing, our ideas and more.
and we experience our art when we let others experience it as well.
We see how it serves them in ways we had hoped for and even more so in ways we never thought of.
When we publish our work to the world, we gain…
direction towards our vision
perspective on others’ lives… and our own
depth & dimension with our work
opportunities to expand
clarity of our divine purpose
and more…
And it’s understandable that you feel your work has to be perfect, presentable or overly polished because… well… the world is looking at your work.
But let me offer you an alternative perspective, which I have said countless times.
The world isn’t in need of perfection, they’re in need of authenticity.
They’re in need for you to use your gifts and show what is possible while simultaneously receiving new perspectives and permission to do the same.
Publishing your work is both an act of creativity and of service.
You get to be you and the world gets to benefit.
So, I wrote this letter as a reminder to publish your work… no matter where you are in the process of your journey… publish it and build from there.
A few thoughts
It’s never perfect, publish it anyways
It’s not about perfection, but when it’s done
It’s not about making content, but creating art
Let’s expand here👇🏼
It’s Never Perfect… Publish It Anyways
I did a past letter (>>click here<< if you want to read it) on this and it’s worth reminding.
A few finer points from that letter…
Our work is never complete because it’s always evolving; we’re always evolving.
It may never look good enough, but it’s not just about you but the people you serve.
The fastest way to get over the fear of putting yourself out there is by putting yourself and your work out there. Do it once and it may feel scary. Do it once everyday and you’ll be cruising within a week.
You don’t need perfect… you need frequency and consistency of publishing.
Publishing your work is like building muscles… repetition trims the “fat” (non-essential work), builds the “core” (the foundational work) and defines the “body/muscle” (the results).
The Internet is “permissionless” and the returns are an engaged audience that you can build your work and income from.
I highly recommend reading that letter... and if you need help with organizing your creativity & content, as well as publishing and scaling, then check out a workshop I made called “Write. Design. Build.”
Oh, and one final point on frequency and consistency of publishing…
Recently, in our creator community and weekly coaching series, Build 1 Thing, my buddy and mindset mentor, Derek Espinoza talked about how to “trigger your flow state.”
While I highly recommend you run with us weekly, I want to share 3 very important points he expressed in yesterday’s LIVE.
If you want more consistency, constantly inject yourself into the work even when you’re not ready.
If you want to be more ready… and often… set up “rituals” or settings & scenes that appeal to your creative senses.
If you really want to appeal to your creative senses, turn off outside distractions to let the first two points happen faster.
Don’t be afraid to put your work out there… your audience isn’t looking for “perfect,” they’re looking for more.👇🏼
It’s Not About Perfection… But When It’s Done
I did a podcast episode on this (Apple, Spotify), and in case you didn’t listen to it yet, I wanted to share a few points from that episode.
When it comes to your work, your art or your creations, it’s not about perfection, but knowing when it’s done.
What I mean is, your work is one fluid journey of your development, insight, creativity, expansion and even earning potential.
Some works of “art” will be done in a short timeframe.
Other works of “art” will never seem finished.
Others may be changed, morphed and transformed into countless other things that are unrecognizable to the original.
And yet others may be timeless.
Allow your work to be one long journey instead of 1 chapter that you’ve attached your whole identity to.
Some finer points from that podcast:
What we want is continuity, not stagnation… we want to have the ability to complete and receive our next mission.
You want to make the best possible thing out of what you’re creating… that’s mastery, but mastery is also in building upon itself… this is life, this is art, this is your work
Finish what you started so the rest of the world can experience it while you develop what’s next
If you want to experience your art, let others experience it as well.
Your life is art… and the whole journey deserves its own museum.
It’s the journey… not the destination.👇🏼
It’s Not About Making Content… But Creating Art
And yet, another podcast I created on this topic (Apple, Spotify) because, well… people fall into the content trap instead of the “your life’s work, art and passions” path.
When we approach our work from the sake of “content” we can feel overwhelmed by algorithms, burned out from comparison and trying to create like everyone else, and deflated when people don’t see our work.
PS - that’s why its important to create your own unique style… and yes, you have style even if you don’t know it yet.
Your own unique style, coupled with your art… will have you creating more art (for the sake of content) but without feeling the same overwhelm.
I will note that it can still be frustrating in the beginning and along the way when it comes to algorithms, reach and growth… I know this more than anyone.
My advice to this is simple.
First work on the consistency of creating your art (work) and its overall style while publishing it continuously.
The consistency of your work being out there will give people something to look at the moment they find you as you start to grow more.
Once you’ve really started to have some good work out there, then start to look at the consumption habits of viewers online and create content that can deliver your style through their habits.
That last point is something I talk about in “Write. Design. Build.” under how I was able to figure out viral reels (and let’s be honest, that’s what’s working now, but it may change).
Essentially, I saw some really cool techniques for making my content more consumable for higher reach, but without sacrificing my writing, messaging and style.
That’s important because we want to grow but never at the compromise of our vision and individuality.
The final point I want to make about creating art not content is this.
As I mentioned to Derek once, you get burned out when you approach content for content’s sake. You become inspired to create content when you approach it like your life’s work and your art.
What you love to talk about and spend waking hours on offline is also ready for you to publish online to share with the world.
And in sharing with the world, you’ll get to experience your art in new ways you haven’t previously thought of.

Simplify, Multiply, Diversify below…👇🏼
SIMPLIFY…
Whatever you’ve created today, it’s the best up to that point… launch it.
MULTIPLY…
Consistency and repetition does many things to your work.
It enhances the quality.
It expands your reach.
It creates feedback from the people it impacts.
It attracts new opportunities.
It widens your perspective.
It clarifies your direction.
It earns you a living and a limitless one at that.
DIVERSIFY…
Traditional publishing of your work is no longer limited to 1 or 2 mediums…
you can be a writer and publish books, journals, apparel, poster, podcasts, courses and more.
you can be an accountant and publish spreadsheets, financial literacy books & courses, hat collections (I’ve seen a financial content creator do this), YouTube tutorials and more.
You now have the opportunity to produce and publish your work across a variety of mediums.
